Justin Hageman
Originally from Tennessee, Dr. Justin Hageman has performed and worked in many different capacities in the Los Angeles area as a free-lance horn player. He has performed with such varied artists as Stevie Wonder, Michael Bolton, Josh Groban, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, and Tony Bennett. He is an alumnus of the Tennessee Governor’s School for the Arts, where he was principal horn in 1995, the Brevard Music Center, and the Henry Mancini Institute.
As an orchestral performer, Dr. Hageman has performed with the Los Angeles Opera, the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, the Pasadena Symphony, the New West Symphony, the Long Beach Symphony, the Long Beach Pops Orchestra, the Fresno Philharmonic, and with the Angeles Chorale as a soloist on J. S. Bach’s Mass in B Minor. In addition, Dr. Hageman has also worked in the Hollywood recording industry; his credits including several major motion pictures and albums with performing artists Russell Watson, Chris Botti, and Jane Monheit.
Dr. Hageman is currently a member of the Santa Barbara Symphony, the Pasadena Pops Orchestra, and the Novo Philharmonic. He received his B.S. degree in Music Education from Tennessee Technological University. In the spring of 2003, he earned his Masters in Horn Performance from UCLA, and in 2005 completed the requirements for the Doctor of Musical Arts degree at UCLA under the tutelage of horn professor, Brian O’Connor. His other most influential teachers have included James Thatcher, Arthur LaBar,
Earl Paluzzi, and Calvin Smith.
Dr. Hageman also devotes much of his time to teaching and has worked with students in both Tennessee and California at the elementary through the collegiate level. He currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Lindsey, and their less than active cat, Jugs.
